Martin Van Buren was the first President born in the United States of America. He was often call the "Little Magician" because he was short in stature but amazing in his mental ability. He was appointed Sec. of State under President Jackson, then in Jackson's second term he was made Vice-President.

He was born on December 5, 1782 in Kinderhook, N.Y. During his childhood, he enjoyed listening to the tavern patrons as they argued politcs in the Dutch language. He went to Kinderhook Academy and common schools.
He married Hanah Hoes,and had no children.
Some other important things he did were he captured the Seminole Chief, Osceola, and an Independent Tresury was established.
After he was president there was an Unsuccessful "Free Soil" party canidate for president. He died on July 24,1862.
Some other interesting facts about him are that he was minister to England and he was a New York State senator.
